Challenges, not problems
It needed to be a hybrid app, deployed on tabs. It needed to work offline, in construction sites where 4G doesn’t reach. And it needed to give a very responsive UI while the inspector was zooming through gigabytes of data.
Solutions, not ideas
We built the app using PhoneGap (later called Cordova) and used all sorts of technology on the cloud to handle the data stores, including large PDF blueprint files. The app sync’d data with the cloud in both directions when it had Internet access, thus allowing the inspector to work at construction sites for the whole day, return home, put his feet up and sync the day’s work to the enterprise servers with one click. This would upload the work he’d done today and pull down the jobs for tomorrow. If we had built this system today, we would have certainly used CouchDB. We lives and we learns.
Now that’s value
The Keurix app was born on the cloud, and we nurtured its growth for the first few years. Keurix went on to re-shape the civil inspection business in The Netherlands, bringing in new levels of safety, compliance and scrutiny.
